The Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia has been developed to serve as the premier national scouting site operated by the Boy Scouts of America (now Scouting America). The property was once the site of extensive coal mining that was subsequently remediated to create wide, flat areas that tier the terrain into a series of “benches” that establish the sites for six sub-camps. This project aimed to create the first permanent structures supporting the campers, and serves as a home base for administrative, health, and services.

The WP Point Lodge and Summit is the primary hospitality venue for donors and VIPs at the Summit campus. Situated at the highest elevation of the site, the Lodge overlooks the adjacent Basecamp Delta, and serves as the “Living Room” or social center accommodating 150 seated guests; an intimate library, and contemplative space capable of hosting private meetings with donors. This flexible space is used for a variety of programming from dining, to classes and programs, to group assembly.
